The University of Alabama in Huntsville continued its defence of SportsMED Arena at Spragins Hall with its seventh home win in a 3-0 sweep against Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday night in another Gulf South Conference matchup. The Chargers (17-2, 9-1 GSC) avenged a 2-3 loss against the Trojans (10-10, 7-3)
The first set was an inauspicious start for the Chargers as Trevecca earned the first three points before Emily Redman struck a kill to put UAH on the board. The Chargers flipped the script the next few rallies with a 3-1 run to level the score at 4-4. From there on, the largest margin for a lead was three points as both sides held steadfast in their pursuit of a Set 1 win. Tied at 18 each, the Chargers built up their momentum on a 3-1 run, highlighted by a pair of kills from Cooper Garrett, to move ahead 21-19. Each side traded the next few points before UAH moved to set point on a Trevecca service error before earning a 25-22 opening set win on a Trojan attack error.
Set 2 began with a Trojan point, but the Chargers quickly answered with a pair of their own before each side traded points through the next several rallies. By the time the set reached the 15th point media timeout with a 15-12 lead, the score was tied 11 times. Trevecca held onto its lead for the next several points before UAH gained a 21-20 lead on a Ella Schumacher kill before Kayla Ward and Amelia Smith earned a combo block to pull ahead 22-20. The Trojans continued to push UAH to the final point, however, as Trevecca reached set point, 24-23, before both sides traded points to push the set into extra play. UAH, though, would not be denied in the end as Garrett hit a kill to level the score at 25 apiece before Brooklyn Stiles delivered a service ace and Redman notched a set-winning kill, 27-25.
Garrett opened Set 3 with a kill for UAH before Trevecca took the next four points before each team began to trade points again. Once again, however, neither side relented as the largest margin of the set remained at just three points until near the final exchanges. The Chargers earned the largest lead of the set of four points, 21-17, on a 3-0 run highlighted by two Mary Grace Bundrant kills before she capped the three-point swing with a solo block. While the Trojans took the next two points, UAH scored the last four of the match with a pair of Redman kills before Garrett and Ward combined for the match-winning block to take Set 4, 25-19.
