BIRMINGHAM – UAH freshman forward Luis McCabe has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, while junior goalkeeper Sonny Wright has been named the GSC Co-Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Chargers earn a 2-0 victory over Mississippi Christian to close out the regular season.

McCabe earned his first Freshman of the Week honor after scoring his second goal as a Charger in the victory over Mississippi Christian. McCabe found the net on his only shot of the match, recording two points with one shot and one shot on goal in 39 minutes of action.

Wright earned his second Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season after tying with AUM's Jakob Buhrkuhl in the voting. Wright recorded a shutout in the 2-0 victory over Mississippi Christian, playing all 90 minutes in goal and making two saves while finishing with a 1.000 save percentage. The win marked Wright's 10th of the season, while the shutout was his fifth. For the season, Wright ranks third in the GSC and 27th nationally with a 0.800 goals-against average. He also ranks fourth in the conference and 32nd nationally in shutouts.

McCabe, Wright, and the Chargers return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, opening play in the Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Championships against No. 6 West Alabama at Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
