Chargers Open 2026 Season With Overtime Win Over Lees-McRae

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The UAH men's lacrosse team opened the 2026 season with an 8-7 overtime victory against Lees-McRae on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park.

With the win, the Chargers improved to 1-0 on the season, while the Bobcats fell to 0-1.

Lees-McRae jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but UAH responded with back-to-back goals late in the period from Makai Hillmon and Harrison Skinner to even the score at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.

The Bobcats carried a 4-3 advantage into halftime, before the Chargers mounted a strong third-quarter performance. UAH scored three goals in a 4:18 span, highlighted by a trio of goals from Jackson Land, Chris AielloNate Burt, to take a 6-5 lead midway through the quarter.

The two teams traded goals throughout the remainder of regulation, as Jake Hughes gave UAH a 7-6 lead late in the fourth quarter before Lees-McRae tied the game with 17 seconds remaining to force overtime.

In overtime, Hillmon netted his second goal of the contest at the 2:21 mark to secure the win for the Chargers.

Hillmon and Aiello led the Chargers with two goals apiece, while Burt, Jackson Land, Hughes, and Harrison Skinner each added one goal in the win. Aiello also paced UAH with two assists. In goal, Tommy Peer earned the win after making eight saves as the Chargers outshot the Bobcats 53-26 on the afternoon.

The Chargers return to action next weekend as they travel to Saint Leo, Florida, to take on Saint Leo on February 6.
