Chargers Close Out Florida Weekend with Split Against Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. | The UAH softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday at the NSU Softball Stadium, falling 5-4 in the opener before bouncing back to claim a 2-1 victory in the second game.

The Chargers move to 4-2 on the season, while Nova Southeastern falls to 2-4.

Game One: UAH 4, Nova Southeastern 5

Nova Southeastern edged UAH in a close contest in the first game of the day. The Sharks struck first in the second inning on a triple from Christina D'Agostin that drove in two runs, giving NSU an early 2-0 lead. The Chargers responded in the fourth inning with a three-run rally. Kylie Ballentine, Hannah Temple, and Kylee Smith each delivered RBI doubles to put UAH ahead 3-2.

NSU answered back in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Rogers and a two-RBI single from A. Moore to regain the lead at 5-3. UAH added a run in the sixth when Temple scored on a wild pitch, but it wasn't enough as the Chargers fell by a single run.

Megan Shurtz took the loss for UAH, striking out 10 in six innings while allowing five runs on four hits. Temple led the Chargers with two runs scored and an RBI, while Ballentine and Smith each added a run.

UAH added another run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Brittany Slaten that brought in Kylie Ballentine.

Nova Southeastern got on the board in the fourth inning with Brianna Matthews scoring on a wild pitch, but the Chargers held on for the narrow victory.

Katie Bracken earned the win for UAH, throwing seven innings and striking out 12 while allowing just one run on three hits. Cockrell went 2-for-4, Ballentine added a hit and a run scored, and Brown contributed an RBI.
