HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Baseball completed a three-game sweep to open Gulf South Conference play Sunday with an 11–3 victory over the Christian Brothers Buccaneers at Charger Park.
Although the series was played in Huntsville due to weather-related schedule changes, UAH served as the designated road team for all three games after the series was originally scheduled for Memphis.
The Chargers improved to 3–0 in conference play behind a strong performance on the mound and an explosive offensive showing.
Tyler Smith delivered his best start of the season, allowing just one earned run over four innings while striking out two. UAH's bullpen followed with five pitchers combining to close out the final five innings, limiting Christian Brothers' offense and preserving the Chargers' lead.
Caleb Mahan led the offensive surge with a career-best performance, going 5-for-5 at the plate for the first five-hit game of his collegiate career. He also scored two runs, drove in two, and stole two bases. Mahan capped a strong weekend series in which he recorded six hits, including a double, with three RBIs, two stolen bases, and a walk.
Ian Reagan contributed two hits and an RBI, while Hugh Windle added a hit, two RBIs, and two walks. CJ Carson also drove in two runs and drew two walks, bringing his season total to 14, which ranks among the top five in Division II.
UAH will return to action Tuesday at Charger Park with a non-conference matchup against the Carson–Newman Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Chargers will then resume Gulf South Conference play next weekend when they host Lee for a three-game series.
