Chargers Drop Road Doubleheader at Valdosta State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | UAH Chargers softball dropped both ends of a Saturday road doubleheader to Valdosta State Blazers softball in Valdosta, Georgia. The Chargers fell 2-1 in eight innings in game one before dropping a 4-1 decision in the second game, moving to 17-5 on the season.

Game One: UAH 1, Valdosta State 2

The opener was a pitcher's duel through seven scoreless innings before the Chargers broke through in the eighth. Allie Yeary singled to left field, advanced to second on the throw, and drove in Kylie Ballentine to give UAH a 1-0 advantage.

Valdosta State answered in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game on a wild pitch before securing the win on a walk-off RBI single down the left field line.

UAH finished with six hits in the contest. Yeary went 2-for-4 with the lone RBI, while Ballentine posted a 2-for-3 performance with a double and scored the Chargers' only run.

Megan Shurtz (6-2) was strong in the circle despite taking the loss, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Game Two: UAH 1, Valdosta State 4

The Chargers struck first in the nightcap when Kylie Ballentine lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Brittany Slaten in the top of the first inning.

However, the Blazers responded with a four-run bottom of the first, capitalizing on a UAH error before adding an RBI single and a two-run home run.

UAH recorded seven hits in game two. Allie Yeary led the way with a 2-for-3 performance. Ballentine doubled and drove in a run, while Slaten added a hit and two stolen bases.

Katie Bracken (5-3) took the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits while striking out six across six innings.

The Chargers will conclude the weekend series against Valdosta State Blazers softball on Sunday, March 1, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
