Chargers’ Big Hits Lead to 11-3 Road Win

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The UAH softball team continued its 2026 campaign with an 11-3 victory over Valdosta State on Sunday. The win moves UAH to 18-5 overall, while Valdosta State falls to 9-7.

UAH struck first in the opening frame as Hannah Temple was hit by a pitch, driving in a run with Allie Yeary scoring to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The offense added three more runs in the third inning, highlighted by Alexa Douthitt's two-RBI single and Temple's RBI double, pushing the lead to 4-0.

The Chargers added three more in the fourth on Kylie Ballentine's two-RBI single, while Valdosta State responded with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 6-2. UAH answered in the sixth with a wild pitch scoring Jill Cockrell, followed by a two-run homer from Ballentine, extending the lead to 9-2. Abby Flynt capped the scoring in the seventh with a two-RBI homer to seal the 11-3 win.

Several UAH players came through with big hits, with Jill Cockrell going 2-for-3 with two runs, Brittany Slaten adding a double and two runs, and Ballentine finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Temple and Douthitt each drove in two runs, while Abby Flynt had a key two-RBI homer. UAH totaled 11 hits and five walks.

Megan Shurtz earned the win in the circle, tossing all seven innings while allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out six, and issuing two walks. She improves to 7-2 on the season.

The Chargers will host Montevallo at Les Stuedeman Field for a Gulf South Conference series, starting with a 3 p.m. game on Friday, March 6, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7, beginning at 12 p.m.
