UAH Dominates Day Two at Chattanooga Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. | The UAH softball team continued play at the Chattanooga Invitational on Saturday, earning a doubleheader sweep with an 8–0 shutout of Palm Beach Atlantic in five innings before defeating Ohio Dominican 5–1 in the nightcap.

UAH improves to 7-2, while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 2-4 and Ohio Dominican drops to 0-3.


Game one: UAH 8, Palm Beach Atlantic 0 (5 innings)
The Chargers jumped out early and never looked back in the opener, scoring in four different innings to secure a five-inning shutout over Palm Beach Atlantic.

UAH plated two runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Alexa Douthitt and an RBI walk drawn by Allie Yeary. The Chargers added a run in the second on an RBI single by Jill Cockrell before breaking the game open with a four-run third inning.

In the third, Hannah Temple and Baylee Darby each delivered RBI doubles, while additional runs scored on a fielding error and another RBI single from Cockrell. UAH added its final run in the fifth on Douthitt's second RBI single of the game.

Brittany Slaten led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, four runs scored, an RBI, and three stolen bases. Douthitt finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Cockrell added two hits and two RBIs. Temple and Darby each contributed an RBI double.

In the circle, Megan Shurtz threw a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits while striking out seven to earn the win.


Game two: UAH 5, Ohio Dominican 1 (7 innings)
The second contest of the day featured a pitchers' duel before UAH broke through in the fifth inning, scoring five runs across the final three innings to defeat Ohio Dominican.

After four scoreless innings, the Panthers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth. The Chargers responded immediately in the fifth, taking the lead on RBI singles from Baylee Darby and Alexa Douthitt.

UAH added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double by Kylee Smith, before closing out the scoring with two runs in the seventh on wild pitches.

Katie Bracken delivered a dominant performance in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one unearned run on three hits. She struck out 12 batters, improving to 3-1 on the season.


The Chargers will conclude the Chattanooga Invitational on Feb. 8 with a 9 a.m. matchup against West Texas A&M, followed by an 11:30 a.m. contest versus Young Harris.
