CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. | The UAH softball team dropped both games of a Tuesday doubleheader at Frost Stadium, falling 9-5 and 9-0 to North Georgia. UAH moves to 19-9 on the season, while North Georgia improves to 20-4.
Game One: North Georgia 9, UAH 5
UAH jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Kylie Ballentine drove in the first run with a single, followed by an RBI double from Alexa Douthitt. Ballentine later scored on a wild pitch.
North Georgia responded in the second inning with a grand slam by Sydnee Reaves and an RBI double from Carleigh Knowles to take the lead. The Nighthawks added two more runs in the sixth and capped the game with two insurance runs in the seventh on a two-RBI single by Morgan Martin.
UAH's offense was paced by Brittany Slaten, who went 3-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases. Douthitt added two hits and an RBI, Ballentine had a run scored and an RBI, and Mia Brown recorded an RBI single. In the circle, Megan Shurtz threw 5.1 innings in relief, allowing four runs and striking out three, while Kennah Lacy started and pitched 1.2 innings.
Game Two: North Georgia 9, UAH 0 (6 Inn.)
North Georgia took control early, scoring three runs in the second inning on a bases-clearing double by Reaves. The Nighthawks extended their lead in the fourth inning with RBI singles from Marycille Brumby and Morgan Martin, along with a run on a passed ball. Reaves added another RBI double in the fifth, and the Nighthawks scored two more in the sixth to complete the 9-0 shutout.
UAH managed four hits in the game, coming from Jill Cockrell, Brown, Douthitt, and Abby Flynt. Brylie Waechter took the loss in the circle, allowing nine runs on 12 hits over five innings. Kennah Lacy pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
Next for the Chargers is a Gulf South Conference doubleheader at West Florida on Friday, March 13, at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday, March 14, at 12 p.m., in Pensacola, Fla.
