HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Women's Basketball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament Friday evening with a 95-85 victory over Edward Waters at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall.
The win marks the first time in 13 years the Chargers have advanced past the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, dating back to UAH's 78-69 win over Tuskegee in 2013.
Edward Waters entered the tournament with the top scoring defense in NCAA Division II, but the Lady Tigers pushed the Chargers throughout a competitive 40-minute contest.
UAH's efficiency at the free throw line proved to be a key factor in the victory. The Chargers finished the game with 28 made free throws, matching their total of 28 made field goals.
The Chargers received balanced scoring across the lineup, with four of the five starters finishing in double figures.
Lili Wilken led the way with 23 points, while Millie Brown added 22 points, including a 5-of-7 performance from three-point range.
Paris Opelt contributed 19 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, while Bella White scored 17 points and was exceptional at the line, converting 11-of-12 free throw attempts.
UAH's fifth starter, Ivey Maddox, finished just one point shy of double figures.
With the victory, the Chargers advance to face Nova Southeastern in the second round of the South Regional. Nova Southeastern secured its spot in the matchup with a 91-71 win over Miles in the final game of the day.
Saturday's contest will mark the fifth meeting between the two programs. The teams last met in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, when Nova Southeastern defeated UAH 80-73.
Tipoff for the second-round matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall.
