PENSACOLA, Fla. | Baseball split a Saturday doubleheader with No. 11 West Florida, dropping the opener before bouncing back with a strong offensive performance to win the nightcap.

Game 1 – West Florida 12, UAH 2

The Chargers struck first in the opening game when Jayce Upton crossed the plate on a single by Nathan Mayfield to give UAH an early lead.

Mayfield also accounted for UAH's second run of the game in the fourth inning.

Brayden Lawrence made the start for the Chargers and worked one inning, allowing three earned runs. Lawrence was charged with the loss as West Florida pulled away for a 12-2 victory.

Game 2 – UAH 10, West Florida 3

UAH responded in a big way in the second game, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back.

The Chargers plated four runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBIs from Gavin Galenza, Luke Songy, Braxton Griffin, and CJ Carson.

UAH extended its lead in the second inning when Nathan Mayfield drove in Jayce Upton to make it 5-0.

The Chargers added to their advantage in the third inning following a throwing error by the West Florida pitcher that allowed Luke Songy to score. Later in the inning, Carson and Griffin crossed the plate on a single by Upton, stretching the lead to 8-0.

UAH continued to add insurance runs later in the game as Mayfield recorded his second RBI of the contest, and Taylor Bush doubled to bring home Caleb Mahan.

Mahan had a standout day at the plate, recording four hits in Game 2 and finishing with five total hits across the doubleheader.

On the mound, Jaxon Hay earned his first win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings in the victory.

The Chargers will continue their road trip on Tuesday, traveling to Jefferson City, Tennessee, to take on Carson-Newman. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m..
