HUNTSVILLE | The UAH women's lacrosse team opened up Gulf South Conference play on Wednesday evening at Charger Park and came away with a 20-4 victory over Virginia State in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Chargers improved to 5-6 (1-0 GSC) with the victory, while the Trojans dropped to 2-5 (0-1 GSC).
UAH and VSU were tied at 2-2 after the first quarter before the Chargers exploded for seven goals in both the second and third quarters while they held the Trojans scoreless in the second and third.
The Chargers had 12 goal-scorers in the game as
Margaret Wheatley and Ava Fudjinksi led the way with three goals apiece.
Lauren Pfleger led the Blue & White in points with four, while she also hauled in six ground balls and eight draw controls.
Maya Bronson tallied five ground balls to aid the Chargers to the win while she also had a goal and two assists in the match.
Talitha Goodman led the squad in caused turnovers as she forced three turnovers with four ground balls and had two draw controls.
Next up for UAH is a road matchup against Mount Olive at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 before getting back into GSC play on March 25 against Lee.
