MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. | Women's Lacrosse suffered a tough 8-7 overtime loss to Mount Olive on Saturday morning after a back-and-forth contest that saw the Chargers rally late to force sudden death.
UAH (5-7) controlled much of the early action, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the opening half behind goals from Kaylie Charters, Kate Simoncic, and Ella Rutherford. The Chargers carried that momentum into halftime, taking a 4-1 advantage after Rutherford added her second goal of the game.
The Chargers extended their lead early in the third quarter when Maya Bronson converted a free-position attempt to make it 5-1, giving UAH its largest lead of the contest.
Mount Olive responded with a surge, scoring five consecutive goals to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth quarter. UAH answered when Ava Fudjinski found the back of the net on a free-position opportunity to even the score at 6-6.
After Mount Olive regained a 7-6 lead late, the Chargers delivered in the closing moments. With just 27 seconds remaining, Rutherford scooped up a loose ball and scored her third goal of the game to tie it at 7-7 and send the contest into overtime.
