CLINTON, Miss. | The UAH softball team earned a thrilling 6-4 comeback victory and series win over Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
UAH improves to 30-15 overall (14-10 Gulf South Conference), while Mississippi College moves to 25-16-1 (15-9 GSC) on the season.
UAH struck first in the opening inning when Mia Brown singled to center field to drive in Jill Cockrell for a 1-0 lead. The Chargers added to the lead in the second inning as Alexa Douthitt singled home Kylee Smith, followed by a bases-loaded walk issued to Mia Brown, scoring Baylee Darby and extending the lead to 3-0.
Mississippi College answered in the sixth inning with a four-run rally to take a 4-3 lead.
The Chargers immediately answered with a rally of their own. Kylie Ballentine reached on an error to bring home Alyssa Butts and tie the game at 4-4. Kylee Smith then delivered a clutch RBI single to score Gracie Ashley and give UAH the lead. Baylee Darby capped the rally with a sacrifice fly that scored Gracie Ashley, regaining the lead and giving the Chargers a 6-4 advantage to end the game.
Katie Bracken earned the win in the circle, improving to 12-6 on the season after tossing 6.1 innings and striking out nine. Lydia West retired the final two batters to secure the victory.
Offensively, Mia Brown led the Chargers with a 2-for-3 day, driving in two runs. Kylee Smith finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Gracie Ashley, Jill Cockrell, Hannah Temple, and Baylee Darby each recorded multi-hit performances.
UAH returns to Les Stuedeman Field to close out its regular season home series against Trevecca Nazarene, beginning Friday, April 17 at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
