CLINTON, Miss. – Baseball captured a key Gulf South Conference road series victory Saturday afternoon, taking two of three from Mississippi College at Frierson Field.
With the win in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, the Chargers secured their second GSC road series victory of the season, adding to an earlier series win at Auburn Montgomery.
Game 1
Mississippi College 17, UAH 7
In the opening game of the doubleheader, UAH's offense showed early life, finishing with 14 hits as multiple Chargers contributed at the plate.
Gavin Galenza delivered a historic performance, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs, marking the first multi-home run game by a Charger this season.
Seth Staggs also had a strong outing, recording four hits and an RBI, while CJ Carson added two hits and two RBIs.
Despite the offensive production, Mississippi College used a big late surge to pull away and even the series.
Game 2
UAH 7, Mississippi College 3
The Chargers responded in a big way in the decisive game of the series, riding a dominant pitching performance from Jaxon Hay to secure the series win.
Hay was outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete game, allowing just three runs (none earned) while striking out three to earn his third win of the season.
It marked the first complete game by a UAH pitcher this season.
Offensively, UAH jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Chargers added insurance runs late, including a three-run seventh inning to seal the victory.
CJ Carson and Seth Staggs each recorded two hits and scored twice, while Taylor Bush and Ian Reagan drove in key runs to pace the offense.
With the win, UAH improved to 17-21 overall and 12-15 in GSC play, gaining valuable ground as the regular season enters its final stretch.
The Chargers will return home next weekend to host Trevecca Nazarene in their final home series of the season at Charger Park.
