Chargers Dominate Virginia State in 24-5 Road Victory

PETERSBURG, VA. | The UAH men's lacrosse team traveled to Petersburg on Saturday and earned a 24-5 victory over Virginia State in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.

The Chargers improved to 3-13 (1-4 PBC), while Virginia State fell to 2-9 (0-5 PBC).

UAH set the tone early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter behind strong offensive pressure and possession control. The Chargers broke the game open in the second quarter, outscoring Virginia State 11-1 by capitalizing on turnovers and winning faceoffs, taking a commanding 16-2 lead into halftime.

UAH maintained control in the second half, answering each Virginia State goal in the third quarter to keep a comfortable lead. The Chargers finished strong in the fourth with five unanswered goals, sealing a  24-5 victory.

Brock Deist led the Chargers offensively with four goals, while Chris Aiello contributed two goals and added five assists to fuel the attack. Jake Hughes, Zach Hulbert, Makai Hillmon, and Jackson Land each added two goals apiece, and Aydan Weiszhar, Harper Richardson, Palmer Mood, Carter Henninger, Logan Pinkerton, Nate Burt, Shiye Rice, John Alit, and Griffin Utz also found the back of the net in the scoring effort.

UAH held the advantage in total shots, 77-24, and shots on goal, 56-11. The Chargers also controlled ground balls, 42-14, and dominated faceoffs, 28-3, to consistently win possession throughout the contest.In goal, Tommy Peer recorded two saves in 30 minutes of action, Tyler Trefzger added two saves over 20:34, and Thomas Dugan also made two saves in the victory.

Next up, the Chargers will host Virginia State in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament play-in game on Tuesday, April 21 in Huntsville, Ala., with opening faceoff set for 4 p.m.
