NEW ORLEANS | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's track and field team retained the top spot in the South Region in the fourth United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Outdoor Checkpoint rankings of the 2026 season released on Tuesday.
Junior Amiah Murry continues to headline the roster, leading the region in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters. Murry lowered her 200 mark to 23.40 and a 52.65 in the 400, both set at the Joe Walker Invitational on April 10-11. Junior Aniya Johnson sits third in the region in the 400 with a 54.59, while sophomore Deja Hines checks in fifth at 55.30.
The 4x400 relay team of Hines, Murry, Summer Sutherlin and Johnson owns the top regional mark with a 3:42.50, set at the UAH Rocket City Invitational on April 18, improving on the squad's earlier season-best. The 4x100 relay team of Jadlyn Debardlabon, Murry, Hines and Caroline Sanders remains second in the region with a 46.73.
Hekla Magnusdottir leads the region in the heptathlon with a score of 4,902 points, with freshman Caroline Sanders sitting second at 4,640, both marks set at the Joe Walker Invitational.
In field events, sophomore Hailey Smith has jumped to second in the region in the hammer with a toss of 49.18m, set at the UAH Rocket City Invitational. Sophomore A'Cynthia Brown has also improved to second in the shot put with a mark of 13.96m and third in the hammer at 49.09m. Junior Sarah Tang remains sixth in the region in the hammer at 47.20m.
Freshman Cooper Garrett continues to lead the region in the javelin with a throw of 46.71m. Debardlabon tops the region in the long jump at 6.00m, with freshman Tamarah Rice holding third at 5.72m and second in the triple jump at 11.88m.
The USTFCCCA Outdoor Checkpoint rankings are based on cumulative team scoring derived from athletes' marks across all events.
