HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The No. 23 UAH women's lacrosse team opened the Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship with a dominant 17-7 victory over third-seeded Lander on Friday afternoon at John Hunt Park, improving to 11-8 on the season.
Six different Chargers found the back of the net, with
Corinne Baker pacing the offense with four goals.
Olivia Rewers,
Ella Rutherford,
Lauren Pfleger and
Kate Simoncic each added three goals, while
Noelle Coleman chipped in one. Rewers led all players with three assists, and
Maya Bronson added two helpers of her own.
UAH held a 26-to-14 shot advantage over the Bearcats and converted 15 of those attempts into shots on goal compared to just six for Lander. The Charger offense held an advantage in free-position opportunities, going 2-of-6 while holding Lander to 1-of-5.
The Chargers successfully converted 19-of-22 clear attempts compared to Lander's 8-of-15 and also forced 21 Lander turnovers while committing 16 of their own.Â
In goal,
Brooke Denny went the full 60 minutes, making three saves to earn the win.
UAH advances to the GSC Championship for the second time in three seasons and will take on No. 1 Flagler in a rematch of their regular season finale.Â
