Baseball Wraps Regular Season, Sets Sights on GSC Championships in Oxford

Livingston, AL | Baseball closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to West Alabama in the series finale.

West Alabama set the tone early, plating three runs in the first inning behind a leadoff home run and timely hitting to quickly build momentum. The Tigers added two more runs in the second on a two-run homer, extending the lead to 5-0.

The game broke open in the third inning, as West Alabama capitalized on walks and an error to push across three additional runs, stretching the advantage to 8-0.

UAH scattered six hits throughout the contest, including doubles from Caleb Mahan, Gavin Galenza, and Jayce Upton, but was unable to generate the timely offense needed to break through.

On the mound, the Chargers used multiple arms throughout the afternoon. Jake Cardin took the loss after allowing three runs in the opening inning, while Ian Sonner provided a steady stretch out of the bullpen with 2.2 scoreless innings.

West Alabama added one final run in the eighth inning to account for the 9-0 final.

Despite the result, the Chargers have secured a spot in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships and will now await their seeding and opening-round matchup for next weekend's tournament in Oxford.
