HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | What began as a routine Gulf South Conference doubleheader turned into an all-day offensive showcase, as UAH and Union combined for 50 runs, 54 hits, 16 doubles, and six home runs across nearly seven hours of baseball Friday at Charger Park. The teams ultimately split the twin bill, with Union taking Game 1, 16–15, before UAH responded with a 15–4 victory in Game 2.
Across the two games, Union posted five innings with two or more runs, while UAH answered with seven such frames, including a decisive 10-run outburst in the second game.
Game 1: Union 16, UAH 15
Game 1 quickly evolved into a back-and-forth slugfest, with both offenses trading blows throughout the afternoon. Union held a 9–6 lead after four innings before UAH surged ahead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bulldogs responded immediately with a six-run seventh inning to regain control, and despite a late three-run push from the Chargers in the eighth, Union held on for the 16–15 win.
UAH's offense produced multiple standout performances in the opener. Taylor Bush and Jayce Upton each homered, with Bush driving in four runs on two hits. Seth Staggs added three hits, including a double, and three RBI.
Ian Reagan, Eli Wells, and Hugh Windle each recorded two hits, while Caleb Mahan delivered a career day at the plate, going 5-for-6 and finishing one hit shy of tying the UAH single-game record.
Game 2: UAH 15, Union 4
The Chargers wasted little time bouncing back in Game 2, taking an early lead in the first inning when Seth Staggs scored on a passed ball. Union briefly moved ahead with a four-run third inning, but UAH answered in the fourth as Hugh Windle, CJ Carson, and Mahan all crossed the plate to tie the game.
UAH reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Jayce Upton scored, setting the stage for a decisive sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Chargers erupted for 10 runs on six hits to break the game open. Staggs, Luke Songy, and Upton each scored on wild pitches before Staggs returned later in the inning to deliver a two-run double down the right field line. Taylor Bush capped the rally with a three-run home run, pushing the lead to 15–4.
On the mound, Jaxon Hay provided stability for UAH, tossing six innings while allowing four runs and striking out three to earn his second win of the season.
Bush finished Game 2 with four RBI and totaled eight RBI on the day, while Staggs added three RBI in the nightcap and six overall, collecting five hits across the doubleheader.
