MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The UAH softball team swept a doubleheader at Christian Brothers on Thursday, taking the opener 8-0 in five innings and game two 18-0 in five innings.
UAH moved to 34-19 overall with the wins, while CBU dropped to 11-34-1.
Game One: UAH 8, CBU 0
Megan Shurtz tossed a complete-game shutout to pick up the win, allowing just one hit while striking out four over five innings. Shurtz improves to 13-7 on the season.
UAH put up single runs in the first and second innings before breaking the game open in the fourth.
Jill Cockrell reached on a walk to lead off the game and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mia Brown. The Chargers added two more in the third on RBI hits by Brown and
Kylie Ballentine. A four-run fourth inning put the game away, highlighted by Brown's two-RBI single that scored
Jill Cockrell and
Brittany Slaten, and an RBI single by
Kylee Smith that brought home Brown. UAH added a final run in the fifth on an RBI single by Slaten.
Brown finished 2-for-3 with four RBIÂ to lead the offense. Cockrell went 2-for-2 with two walks and scored three times.
Alexa Douthitt added two hits and an RBI, while Ballentine and Smith each recorded an RBI as well.
Game Two: UAH 18, CBU 0
UAH sent 14 batters to the plate in a 10-run first inning to put the game out of reach early.
Alexa Douthitt capped the inning with a grand slam, finishing the game with four hits, a home run, and six RBIs.
Keli Madden went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Slaten hit a triple, and
McKamey Bratcher added an RBI single in a seven-run third inning that pushed the lead to 17-0.
Katie Bracken worked two innings and struck out five.
Lydia West followed with three scoreless innings in relief and earned the win. West improved to 3-1Â on the season.
UAH will close out the series at Christian Brothers on Friday, May 1 at 12 p.m.
