Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. | The UAH softball team fell to Saint Leo by a score of 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in the NCAA South Super Regional at Mary Cannon Cabot Field.
Saint Leo used a six-run first inning to build an early lead, capitalizing on a pair of Charger errors and scoring four unearned runs in the frame.
UAH responded in the second inning when Kylee Smith delivered an RBI single to right field, bringing home Gracie Ashley to cut the deficit to 6-1.
The Chargers added two more runs in the third inning as Alexa Douthitt blasted a two-run home run to center field, scoring Jill Cockrell to cut the deficit to 6-3, but Saint Leo's pitching staff held UAH scoreless over the final four innings despite the Chargers recording eight hits in the contest.
Douthitt led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and two RBI, while Hannah Temple added two hits. Cockrell, Ashley, Smith, and Brittany Slaten each recorded a hit as well.
In the circle, Megan Shurtz provided a strong relief outing for the Chargers, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out one. Katie Bracken (18-11) took the loss.
UAH is scheduled to take on Saint Leo at 12 p.m. in Saint Leo, Fla., with an if-necessary game scheduled for 3 p.m. to determine the South Super Regional champion and the tournament's advancing team.
