CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team defeated Delta State 1-0 Saturday afternoon, picking up their second win in conference play.
UAH (5-0-1, 2-0-1 GSC) took an early lead in the sixth minute when junior midfielder Stellios Starakis scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Wesley Atoyebi. The Chargers held the lead through the remainder of the match to secure the shutout victory over Delta State (2-5-1, 0-2-0).
The Chargers finished the match with nine shots, with three on goal. Donovan Pruitte and Marc Lorenz led the Chargers with three shots each, while Starakis and Alejandro Tocino Vidal each recorded one shot on goal. Xavier Martin also added one shot.
Junior goalkeeper Sonny Wright played all 90 minutes for the Chargers, making three saves while allowing no goals for his second shutout of the season.
The Chargers are back in action Wednesday, September 23, hosting Union at Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama, at 7:30 p.m.
