The University of Alabama in Huntsville played at home for the first time in 20 days and earned a 3-0 sweep against Montevallo in Gulf South Conference action.
The Chargers (11-2, 3-1 GSC) fell behind Montevallo (9-4, 3-1) 2-0 before rallying on a 6-2 run to take the lead with four straight kills to finish the rally with Ella Schumacher and Cooper Garrett each hitting one while Kayla Ward connected for two. From that point UAH never relinquished the lead as it earned a 25-15 Set 1 win. The Chargers hit at a .278 efficiency to the Falcons' .095 through the set.
Mary Grace Bundrant started off the Chargers with an early lead with a kill, though both sides traded points before Montevallo took a 9-7 lead. The Chargers regained the lead, however, moments later with a 4-0 run kickstarted by kills from Garrett and Emily Redman to move ahead 11-9. While the Falcons tied the score at 11 apiece, another kill from Redman gave UAH a lead they never gave up the remainder of the set before earning a 25-19 Set 2 win.
The third, and ultimately final set, was a contentious affair that was pushed into extra play as both sides hit nearly even with UAH at a .200 and Montevallo at .189. UAH jumped to an early lead before Montevallo caught up at 8-8, at which point the two sides remained knotted up for several exchanges. While the Chargers moved ahead by five at 20-15 and again at 21-16, the Falcons jumped back into the fray with a point to tie the Chargers' 24-23 match point at 24 each. Montevallo earned the next point, but UAH responded with three straight of their own to close out the set and match, 27-25, punctuated by a final kill from Ward.
