Soccer Visits Delta State, CBU

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In what will be a pivotal weekend for both squads, the UAH men's and women's soccer teams are set to travel to Delta State on Friday before journeying to Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon. The kick-offs against DSU are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., while Sunday's contests will start at noon and 2:30 p.m.

The women's squad sits at 3-7-2 overall and 1-1-1 in a league play, in a tie for fifth place in the Gulf South Conference with West Georgia. Friday's opponent is 3-8-0 (0-4-0), and the Blue and White will need to take care of the Lady Statesmen to keep pace in the standings. Christian Brothers sits in fourth at 5-5-2 (2-2-0 GSC).

Khadijah Jannah paces the team in points with 11 on the strength of five goals and one assist, while Luting Sun and Cady Reisman sit on her heels with four goals and one assist each as both total nine points on the season. Continuing to impress in goal, Iris Gunnarsdottir has racked up 70 saves on the season as she has played every minute of the season for the Lady Chargers.

Jannah sits sixth in the league in scoring while Reisman and Sun are ranked ninth. Gunnarsdottir is third in the GSC with CBU's Robyn Wade in first with 81 saves and Delta State's Kelsey Eiling in second with 76 stops.

On the men's side, UAH – 7-3-0 overall – sits atop the GSC standings with West Florida as both have identical 2-0-0 records in league play. Delta State will be playing its first conference game against the Chargers while owning an overall mark of 4-7-0. Christian Brothers will play UWF Friday night to play its first GSC game, entering that contest at 9-3-0 overall.

The Chargers and the Bucs met earlier this season with Felix Hjalmarsson and Mitch Wilson scoring goals in a 2-1 victory for UAH.

Hjalmarsson is third in the GSC in points with 14 on the season, while teammate Kyle Simmons continues to lead the conference with 20 points.

Live stats and live audio courtesy of DSU will be available for Friday's game while live stats will also be available from Christians Brothers on Sunday. Fans are encouraged to follow the Chargers on Twitter (@uahchargers).
