UAH Drops 2-1 Decision To Martin Methodist

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Putting together a solid effort, the UAH women's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score to visiting Martin Methodist on Sunday afternoon at Charger Field. With the setback the Lady Chargers fall to 1-4 on the year, and the RedHawks improve to a perfect 4-0.

The guests entered the game as NAIA's fifth-ranked team.

The Lady Chargers had two of the best opportunities to get on the board first. Cady Reisman had the first chance in the 16th minute as she had a good run through the Martin Methodist defense to record the team's first shot on goal of the day. A few minutes later Khadijah Jannah found Luting Sun right in front of the goal, but Sun's attempt to put it in the back of the net sailed high.

Despite those solid chances, there was no score at the half.

That quickly changed, however, as the RedHawks scored just three minutes into the second half as Layken Richard got it forward to Nicole O'Donnell who scored to produce a 1-0 advantage. The score remained that way until the 68th minute when Jennifer Loewen padded the visitor lead as she scored off a scramble in front after a corner.

Not backing down, the Lady Chargers turned up the pressure and were rewarded in the 75th minute.

Jannah worked her way down the right side and sped past the RedHawk defense, blasting it past Hanit Schwarz for her second goal of the season and pulling the Blue and White within one at 2-1.

Several more scoring chances developed for the home team in the game's closing minutes, including a good chance off a corner with less than 10 minutes left. Becca Mauldin placed the ball in the box, and after it caromed around for a few moments, Moriah Bayse attempted to put it home but it wound up deflecting high.

Iris Gunnarsdottir picked up a pair of saves in the loss, while Schwarz made four stops in posting the victory.

Though the Lady Chargers were outshot 11-9, UAH was able to put five goals on target while the RedHawks had four on goal.

The squad will attempt to get back in the win column on Wednesday when it hosts Montevallo at 2 p.m.
