Chargers Head To North Georgia For First Road Contest

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Looking for its longest winning streak since the 2009 season, the UAH men's soccer team hits the road for the first time in the 2011 campaign as it travels to North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon for a critical showdown. The Chargers enter the 3 p.m. game with a 4-2-0 record while the hosts own a 3-2-1 mark.

The Chargers defeated No. 11 Montevallo 3-1 last Thursday before blowing past Georgia Southwestern 5-0 on Saturday.

Proving to be an impressive offensive force, UAH sits atop the Gulf South Conference in goals (20), goals per game (3.33), assists (16), and assists per game (2.67). Individually, the rankings are full of Chargers as well as the GSC's top three in points are Kyle Simmons (15), Felix Hjalmarsson (10), and Mitch Wilson (nine).

Simmons and Hjalmarsson are also one-two in goals with seven and four, respectively, and Wilson is tied for first in the league with his three assists..

Not to be outdone by his offensive counterparts, keeper Kel Markert sits second in the conference in goals against average (1.15) while leading the way in save percentage (.773) and shutouts (two).

The Chargers have won two straight by defeating a pair of Peach Belt Conference schools, and North Georgia is also a member of the PBC.

In the all-time series between the Saints and UAH, each side has taken three contests. The Chargers took the first three before North Georgia took the next trio of contests, including a 1-0 victory in 2008 when the teams met last.

Winners of three of their last four, the Saints enter the day coming off their highest offensive output of the season as they defeated UNC-Pembroke 3-2 on Saturday. Max Angel scored one of the three goals in that contest and leads North Georgia with a pair on the season, and he also is on top of the ledger with five points.

Rade Tanaskovic has seen all the time in goal for the Saints, and he features a .719 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.49.
