HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Coming off an exciting victory in extra time over Delta State in its season opener, the UAH women's soccer squad is set to welcome Lincoln Memorial to Charger Field for a 1 p.m. tilt on Sunday. Both teams own a 1-0 mark on the season.
The Blue and White led for much of the day when the Lady Statesmen were in town after
Luting Sun notched the season's first goal in the 34th minute, but overtime would be required as DSU tied the game late. Not deterred and with some aid from a fortuitous break, UAH scored in the 98th minute as
Gillian Harding was credited with the game-winner.
Khadijah Jannah had several strong looks in the contest, and the speedy sophomore led the Lady Chargers with a pair of shots on goal. The team finished the contest with four.
Delta State managed six shots on
Iris Gunnarsdottir's net, and the Reykjavik, Iceland, native stopped five in earning the win in her debut.
The Lady Railsplitters enter Sunday's showdown with a 2-7-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-1 decision in their favor a season ago. UAH last defeated Lincoln Memorial in 2003, winning 1-0.
Also a 2-1 winner in overtime, Lincoln Memorial defeated Young Harris in its season opener on Thursday. In what was almost an identical reversal of UAH's contest, the Lady Railsplitters trailed 1-0 until Lindsay Anderson scored the equalizer in the 86th minute. She then notched the golden goal just over five minutes into extra time for the win.
Kayla Hanson earned the win in the LMU goal.
