Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The No. 15 UAH men's basketball team never trailed on Thursday night, picking up an 84-68 victory at Delta State as four Chargers ended the night in double figures. The victory moves UAH to 13-3 (4-1 Gulf South Conference) while DSU drops to 4-12 (0-5 GSC).
The Chargers ran out to a hot start, opening the game with an 11-2 run, and the lead grew out to as many as 23 points in the opening period before the teams went into the halftime break with the visitors up by a 52-30 score.
The 52 points represented the second-highest output in an opening half this season.
The strong period was possible due to UAH's hot shooting from the floor as the team connected on 16 of its 23 shots from the floor for a shooting percentage of nearly 70 percent – including an 8-for-12 showing from beyond the arc.
Delta State opened the second half scoring the first four points while holding the Chargers scoreless until
Srdjan Boskovic hit a 3-pointer just over three minutes into the stanza. However, UAH was able to overcome the slow start and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the contest.
Jaime Smith led UAH in the contest with 24 points, while
Josh Magette added 12 assists to move within two of 737 for his career – a mark that would match the GSC's record for assists in a career.
Xavier Baldwin also scored in double figures as he collected 14 on the night, followed by
Andrew Donovan who matched a career high with 12 points.
Zane Campbell added 10 to round out the double-figure scorers.
UAH ended the night shooting 56 percent from the floor while limiting the Statesmen to a 42.9 shooting percentage, and the Chargers won the battle on the glass by a 34-27 margin.
Delta State's Terry Leake led all scorers in the contest with 34 points.
UAH now turns its attention to No. 11 Christian Brothers who visits Spragins Hall on Sunday at 4 p.m.
