10/27/2026 3:01:00 PM

In the first preseason poll of the year, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball program has earned the No. 25 spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II rankings.

The Chargers earned 56 points in the voting process after finishing last season 23-10 overall and 15-7 in the Gulf South Conference under third-year head coach Mick Hedgepeth who collected a 55-12 record in his first two seasons.

UAH was also selected to finish second in the conference in the GSC coaches preseason poll, behind only West Alabama which was ranked No. 10 in the NABC preseason poll. The Chargers progressed to the GSC championship semifinals last season and won two games in the NCAA South Regional, 92-73 versus No. 2 seed Palm Beach Atlantic and 83-74 against No. 3 West Alabama.

Sophomore Jordan Mabe is a member of the Preseason All-GSC Team, while Jax Abernathy and Xavier Martinez were named to the conference's Newcomers to Watch list.

The Chargers advanced to the NCAA Division II South Region Championship last season before being put out of the postseason by this year's No. 1 ranked Nova Southeastern team.

The Chargers will face two programs listed among the preseason Top 25 teams. The Chargers will host Nova Southeastern on November 14 and face No. 10 West Alabama twice in conference action with a home game on December 12 and another in Livingston on January 30.

The Chargers will open the 2026-27 regular season Nov. 9 against Harding at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
