FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. | The UAH men's basketball team defeated No. 3 seed West Alabama in the NCAA Division II South Regional Semifinals on Sunday evening 83-74 in Rick Case Arena on the campus of Nova Southeastern.
The Chargers improved to 23-9 overall, while the Tigers ended their season with a 27-6 record.Â
The win marked the ninth time in school history and the second consecutive year that UAH has advanced to the South Region final.Â
UAH led for the majority of the contest as they took the lead with 13:11 remaining in the first half and held it till 6:31 in the second half when UWA briefly tied the game. UAH reclaimed it 28 seconds later and never lost the lead again.
Offensively, the Chargers were led by
Quentin Toles who totaled 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting along with six rebounds.
Matt Thurman and
Bryce Mason each tallied 16 points, with Thurman adding five boards.
Jordan Mabe rounded out the Chargers in double-digit scoring as the freshman went 4-for-4 from the field with a 5-for-7 mark from the free throw line.
The Chargers were 24-for-33 from the free throw line in the win and made nine threes. The Blue & White held a 32-to-26 advantage on points in the paint and had 21 points off turnovers compared to just nine points off turnovers from the Tigers.Â
Next up, UAH will face off with the winner of No. 1 seed Nova Southeastern and No. 5 seed Montevallo.
