HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After enjoying a week with no midweek contest, the No. 12 UAH men's basketball team is set to return to action on Saturday when it travels to rival North Alabama for a 3 p.m. tilt at Flowers Hall. The Chargers enter the contest on top of the Gulf South Conference with a record of 14-3 (5-1 GSC), while the Lions sit at 11-17 (3-3 GSC).
Behind the strength of just the third triple-double this season in Division II, UAH knocked off then-No. 11 Christian Brothers at home 74-65 to take its place on top of the GSC its last time out.
Josh Magette scored 21 points while adding 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while
Zane Campbell was a stellar 9-of-12 from the field en route to scoring a team-best 23 points while also swatting away four CBU shots. The Chargers shot over 50 percent for the sixth-straight game, connecting on 25 of their 45 shots.
Magette now ranks tops on all-time career assists ledger in the Gulf South Conference, moving past the old mark of 737 set in 1979 with the 10-assist performance against Christian Brothers.
Magette is the best in Division II - and third among all NCAA players - in assists per game this season as he is averaging 9.5.
Jaime Smith and Campbell also rank among Division II's best as Smith sits second in 3-point field goal percentage (50.9 percent) while Campbell sits sixth in field goal percentage (64.0 percent).
As a team, the Chargers are ranked sixth in the country in field goal percentage as they shoot 52.3 percent as a unit.
North Alabama has won three of its last four with its lone loss at nationally-ranked Christian Brothers, and on Tuesday the Lions were a 106-75 winner over Concordia. Beaumont Beasley leads UNA with 15.7 points per contest while Theron Jenkins is close behind with 15.6 points per game.
The Lions like to shoot the 3-ball as they have attempted 451 shots from beyond the arc on the season, and the team currently sits second in the conference with 8.8 made treys per contest.
In the all-time series, UNA owns a 32-21 mark against the Chargers but UAH has taken the last five meetings. In the last 10 contests between the two schools at Flowers Hall, UAH has been dominant as the Blue and White have gone 8-2.
