UAH Tripped Up By Christian Brothers

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On a rain-soaked Charger Park pitch Friday afternoon, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell 3-1 to visiting Christian Brothers. The Chargers drop to 1-10 (0-7 Gulf South Conference), and the Bucs improve to 6-5 (4-2-1 GSC).

The tough playing conditions did not seem to bother either team as Christian Brothers struck first with Ralph Velasco scoring on a header off a corner kick in the 11th minute, and the Chargers answered right back shortly.

Just over five minutes later in the 16th, Cyprin Kanneh crossed it to Huntsville native Mitch Wilson who booted the ball towards the goal and in for his first score of the season, knotting the affair at 1-1. The helper marked the first point of the season for Kanneh.

The game remained that way, and it appeared that the Chargers were heading towards their first overtime game of the season, but Sean Rutter scored in the 83rd minute off a scrum in front of Kel Markert's goal to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Matt Derise scored just a minute later in the 84th to put the contest out of reach.

Christian Brothers held an 11-2 advantage in shots including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

The Chargers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host Delta State at 3:30 p.m.
