Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite a strong push in the second half, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell 3-1 to visiting Delta State on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-11 (0-8 GSC) while the Statesmen improve to 6-7-1 (3-5 GSC).
With the home team trailing 3-0, the Blue and White received a spark as
Kyle Simmons passed it to the feet of Cyrpin Kanneh who booted it over the DSU keeper and into the back of the net to trim the deficit to two at 3-1 in the 69th minute.
The strike marks the first of the season for the sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., and with the assist on the play, Simmons has amassed 11 points on the year.
The Statesmen notched their first score in the 25th minute when Caue DaSilva scored, and after the score remained 1-0 at the halftime break, DaSilva tallied again in the 54th to pad the lead. DSU's third goal of the contest came in the 64th when Steven Simmons scored out of a scrum in front.
Delta State owned a 13-8 advantage in shots for the contest, and the visitors also held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The relatively wide margin of difference in shots on goal was not indicative, however, of the quality chances that the Chargers produced as the team had several strong opportunities go just wide of the DSU net.
UAH will wrap up the home slate of the 2012 season when Union visits on Thursday. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Charger Park.
