Box Score ROME, Ga. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell on the road Monday night, dropping a 5-1 decision to host Shorter. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-13 (0-10 Gulf South Conference) while Shorter improves to 4-11-1 (3-4-1 GSC).
Sophomore
Kyle Simmons took over the team lead in scoring with a penalty kick strike in the 88th minute, giving the Huntsville native 13 points on the strength of five goals and three assists on the year. He had several other strong scoring chances in the contest as he finished with a team-best five shots.
The Hawks scored in the 10th minute and the 40th to build up a 2-0 lead at the half, and the hosts tallied in the 67th, 73rd and 86th to score their five goals.
Both teams fired off numerous tries on the night as Shorter held a 21-15 advantage in shots including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. The Hawks also owned a 7-1 advantage in corners.
The Chargers will return to action on Friday as they travel to Pensacola to take on West Florida.
