Box Score CARROLTON, Ga. – Khadijah Jannah scored twice,
Emily Hancock had a four-point day, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team snapped a four-game slide by knocking off host West Georgia 4-1 on Sunday. The Lady Chargers improve to 6-8 (2-4 Gulf South Conference), while the Wolves fall to 3-5-3 (2-1-2 GSC).
As has frequently been the case for the Blue and White in victories this season, the team struck quickly as Hancock notched her first goal of the season in just the fifth minute of play. Her strike was set-up by
Jillian Young who recorded her first collegiate point on the goal.
Just over 20 minutes later Jannah would score her first of two on the day, scoring in the 26th off a helper from Hancock to make it 2-0, and the score would remain that way through the rest of the first stanza.
Cutting the lead in half, West Georgia's Mariela Ortega scored in the 50th minute, but the two-goal advantage for the visitors would quickly redevelop as Jannah struck on a breakaway just six seconds later to put the Lady Chargers ahead 3-1.
Cady Reisman assisted on the play, and she would add to UAH's lead when she scored an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to produce the 4-1 final. Picking up her fourth point of the day, Hancock assisted on Reisman's score.
With the two goals, Jannah moved into the team lead in points with 14 as she matches
Sydnie Fiocca's six scores.
UAH was outshot 16-11 on the day, and keeper
Iris Gunnarsdottir made nine more saves to run her season total to 91 as she chases the school record for stops in a season of 111 that she set last year.
The Lady Chargers will look to build upon Sunday's performance on Friday when they host Christian Brothers at 1 p.m. at Charger Park.
