Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team was eliminated from the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday evening as West Florida pushed past the Lady Chargers by 4-1 score. UAH slips to 10-10 on the year, while UWF improves to 18-1.
The setback possibly concludes what has been a strong season for the Lady Chargers as the squad improved its win total from a season ago by five games in Head Coach
Jimmy Mitchell's first season in Huntsville.
With the win on Thursday over West Alabama – the first-ever in program history at the GSC Tournament – and the boost in strength of schedule from playing West Florida again, the Lady Chargers will have a chance to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The women's soccer selection show is slated for Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Trailing 4-0, UAH picked up its lone goal in the contest when
Cady Reisman scored with just over 10 minutes left in the game as she picked up a loose ball in the middle of the box and fired it in for the score.
Never quitting in the contest, Reisman had another strong run four minutes later that resulted in a corner for the Lady Chargers, and UAH nearly tallied another score as
Trisha Ehrhardt's attempt was blocked away by GSC Player of the Year Sarah Story.
West Florida struck quickly in the contest on Friday, scoring just under two minutes into the contest Shelby Bush put the Argos on top 1-0. Another strike in the 21st minute and a penalty kick goal in the 31st provided a 3-0 lead at the half, and a strike with the second half just under four minutes old boosted the UWF advantage to 4-0.
Shots on goal in the contest were even at 6-6, while UWF held a 20-10 advantage in overall shots. The Argos also led 8-5 in corner kicks.
The contest marks potentially the final one in the careers of four UAH seniors:
Summer Carter,
Emily Hancock,
Trisha Ehrhardt, and Reisman.
