No. 3 Chargers Open Season With Point Loma Nazarene

LIVE STATS | LIVE VIDEO | GAME NOTES
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The No. 3 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will start the 2012-13 campaign on Friday night as the Chargers welcome Point Loma Nazarene for a 7:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

The game will start following the conclusion of the volleyball match with Christian Brothers.

Beginning the year with high expectations once again, the Blue and White will look to build off of back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and last year's Gulf South Conference title – a championship that the Chargers are picked to defend by the league's head coaches.

UAH will aim to see continued production from preseason All-Americans Jaime Smith and Zane Campbell. Smith led the nation and the conference in 3-point field goal percentage a season ago while finishing third in scoring average, and Campbell was third in the league in field goal percentage and blocked shots while also placing in the top 10 in points per game.

The Friday night contest marks the first between the Sea Lions and the Chargers.

A year ago, PLNU turned in a 21-10 record and advanced to the second round of the NAIA Championships, and the squad returns nine letterwinners from that team.

The Chargers are riding a four-game winning streak on opening night dating back to the 2009-10 season and including last year's 89-65 victory over Fisk. The last time UAH fell in the season debut was a 63-60 setback at Delta State in the 2008-09 year.

Live stats and a video webcast of the contest will be available at uahchargers.com.

Fans are encouraged to follow the Chargers on Facebook (facebook.com/uahchargers) and on Twitter (@uahchargers), and supporters of the Blue and White may sign up for text and e-mail updates at uahchargers.com.
