Strong Start For No. 3 Chargers In Season Opener

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 3 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team started the season with a 58-44 victory over visiting Point Loma Nazarene at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Friday evening in front of a boisterous opening night crowd. The Chargers start the season at 1-0, while the Sea Lions begin the year at 0-1.

The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native placed an exclamation point on the end of the opening stanza as he buried a contested trey with less than a second, and after being fouled on the shot, he completed the four-point play with the successful free throw to give the hosts a 32-22 lead at the break.

Joining Dedrick in double figures was Zane Campbell. The senior used a perfect 4-for-4 showing from the free throw line to score 10 points. Ronnie Mack nailed a pair of treys on his way to tallying eight points, a performance that was matched by Xavier Baldwin, and Jaime Smith chipped in with seven.

Junior Will Carr electrified the large home crowd with a thrilling dunk late in the first half, and he registered three blocks – including a powerful swat that resulted in the ball literally leaving the gym.

For the contest, the Chargers shot 41.9 percent from the field while limiting the Sea Lions to hit just 27.8 percent of their attempts.
