VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams continued conference play on Saturday as the men fell to perennial power Valdosta State by a 7-2 score while the women dropped their match 8-1. Both teams now sit at 1-2 on the season – both overall and in conference play.
In men's action, the doubles matches were close but only Guillermo Reyes and Marcos Rivera were able to win a point for the Chargers as they took their match 9-7. Daniel Canellas and Christopher Kano narrowly fell 9-7 at the No. 1, while Raphael Oliveira and Bruno Medeiros fell by just an 8-6 score at the No. 2.
Reyes captured the team's other point as he was a 6-3, 0-6, 9-7 winner in singles play. Medeiros threatened to extend his singles match before falling 6-3, 7-5.
On the women's side, the Lady Chargers fell in each of the doubles matches, and
Adriana Buitrago was the sole player to earn a point as she won by scores of 6-2, 6-3 in singles action.
The teams will continue play in Valdosta on Sunday when they take on Sunshine State Conference institution Florida Tech.
