HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 2 UAH softball team is set to open its 2012 home slate on Wednesday as it welcomes Stillman to the Rocket City for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Charger Softball Complex. The Chargers enter the game with a 2-0 mark while Stillman visits with a record of 2-1.
The two teams met in the Blue and White's season opener on Sunday in Irondale, Ala.
In that affair,
Kathryn Whitlock blasted homers in three consecutive at-bats to begin what would be an impressive day that would lead to hear garnering Gulf South Conference Player of the Week accolades. In the two games combined she picked up four hits and drove in seven runs while starting the season off with an astonishing 2.600 slugging percentage.
Whitney Gilbert was strong in the circle for UAH, picking up a pair of strikeouts for the final two outs of the game with Stillman before turning around to toss the complete game victory in a 12-2 decision against Miles. In six innings of work she scattered six hits and gave up just one earned run while striking out six more batters.
UAH pitching will be looking to avoid giving anything good to hit to Aubree Holt as she has belted seven home runs in Stillman's three games – including three against the Chargers to keep that contest a ballgame.
The Chargers led at one point in the contest 14-1 before a Holt grand slam provided momentum for the Lady Tigers, and the eventual final was a 14-9 decision for UAH.
Wednesday's twinbill will feature a pair of reigning conference players of the week as Holt nabbed the honor from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
With the win on Sunday, the Chargers own the all-time series 3-0 against Stillman.
