Tennis Falls To Nationally-Ranked UWF

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams fell on Sunday as both lost 9-0 to visiting West Florida. The Lady Chargers fall to 5-8 while the men's team drops to 3-7.
 
On the ladies side, it was No. 1 Melanie Junod who put up UAH's best fight as she lost 6-3, 7-5, while Adriana Buitrago took five points from her UWF opponent in losing 6-2, 6-3. The women's No. 1  doubles pairing of Junod and Lina Carvajal picked up the only points in doubles action as the duo fell 8-2.
 
The team was facing a stiff challenge as West Florida's women are ranked No. 8 in the country.
 
The men's squad from UWF is also nationally ranked as they are seventh in the polls.
 
The No. 2 doubles combination of Thales Castro and Christopher Kano fell 8-4, while Daniel Canellas and Raphael Oliveira were able to take three points in dropping an 8-3 decision. In singles play, both the No. 2 and No. 3 went three sets as Kano fell 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the second position while Oliveira dropped a 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 contest.
 
Both teams will now be off until March 28 when they take on Stillman at home on March 28.a
