HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The fifth-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will have a busy stretch, playing doubleheaders on four straight days beginning with the team's Gulf South Conference opener at Delta State on Sunday. The Chargers enter the eight-game stretch with a record of 16-5.

Sunday's set is scheduled for noon, and then UAH will travel to Christian Brothers to face the Lady Bucs at 2 p.m. on Monday. Returning to Alabama, the squad will take on North Alabama in Florence on Tuesday at 5 p.m., and the string of games will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Miles on Tuesday.

After playing a tough non-conference slate that included five nationally-ranked opponents, the Blue and White rank 10th in the country with a batting average of .356 and seventh in scoring as the team is averaging 7.76 runs per contest.

Sixth as a team in the nation in home runs per game, Stephanie Needham ranks fifth individually among Division II players with 10 long flies on the year.

The Charger offense should continue to excel in the upcoming stretch of games as Delta State and Monday's opponent Christian Brothers rank sixth and seventh, respectively, in the GSC in ERA as the Lady Statesmen have allowed a league-high 93 runs while CBU has surrendered 71 but in nearly 40 fewer innings.

Additionally, UAH faced Miles on the season's opening day and posted 12 runs.

Leading UAH is Kelli Long who has hit .422 on the season, and she is a perfect 18-for-18 in stolen base attempts. Needham sits just behind her with a .417 average, and Mary Kelley is also hitting above .400 at .403 while scoring a team-high 25 runs.

After the next four days, the Chargers will return home to welcome West Georgia and Valdosta State next weekend.
