HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 10th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will host West Georgia on Saturday, March 24, before squaring off against No. 2 Valdosta State on Sunday, March 25. The Chargers will battle both the Wolves and Blazers in doubleheaders starting at 2 p.m. CDT this weekend at the Charger Softball Complex.
UAH (22-7, 4-2 GSC) is currently on a five-game winning streak heading into the weekend after enduring a rough patch in which the Chargers claimed just two of the seven games previous to the active streak.
Offensively, the Chargers continue to be led by
Stephanie Needham as she averages .470 at the plate, and she has belted a team-best 10 homers. Also hitting over .400 is
Mary Kelley who is batting at a clip of .416 with eight home runs on the year.
West Georgia enters the contest with a 7-21 overall record and 1-7 mark in the league, and have claimed just two wins in the squad's previous 10 games. The Chargers own the advantage in the all-time series over the Wolves by a significant margin of 52-6. Nicole Yancey leads West Georgia offensively as she hits .400 on the season while notching 30 RBI and 10 home runs.
Entering the weekend with a record of 21-2 overall and an unblemished 8-0 mark in the GSC, Valdosta State still trails UAH in the all-time series by a margin of 51-27. Samantha Posey's .500 clip from the plate leads the squad, while Courtney Albritton and Morgan Johnson are also hitting .476 and .464, respectively.
