HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 18
th-ranked UAH softball team is set to hit the road again, continuing conference play with a doubleheader at West Florida on Saturday before heading back to Alabama to take on West Alabama in a two-game rematch of last year's NCAA Super Regional series. The Chargers enter the weekend with a mark of 24-9 (6-4 Gulf South Conference).
Saturday's set with the 22-14 (6-4 GSC) Argos is slated for 2 p.m., while UAH will square off against the 17-11 (7-3 GSC) Tigers at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Stephanie Needham continues to be stellar at the plate for the Blue and White as she leads the team with an impressive .455 average, and she will aim to help the team bounce back from its pair of setbacks at the hands of Valdosta State last Sunday. Ranking third in the league in both average and slugging percentage (.830), her 51 hits as well as her 40 RBI and 11 homers are tops in the conference.
Prior to the two losses to VSU, the Chargers had reeled off seven straight victories thanks in large part to
Mary Kelley's strong week at the dish – a week that earned her GSC Player of the Week honors. She also ranks among the league's best as she sits second with 32 runs and 38 RBI, and Kelley is tops in the conference with 14 doubles.
Emma Johnson has been consistent at the plate for West Florida, pacing the team with a .404 average and 31 runs scored, while Kasie Buckley has driven in a team-best 29 runs. As a team in the circle, the Argos feature a 3.10 ERA, and Sarah Scott has the team's best record at 7-4 as she has struck out 45 batters on the season.
The Tigers are led by GSC-leader Tamara Vickers' .478 average, and Vickers is also a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts. Rebecca Schick hits at a .384 clip and has driven in a team-high 32 runs. Kristin Skinner and Jessica Brock share much of the work in the circle, nothing ERAs of 1.97 and 2.75, respectively. Brock boasts a 10-3 record.
Live stats and audio will be available for both sets of games.
