HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 1 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team is set to return home to face in-town foe Alabama A&M on Wednesday evening, playing the first-ever game under lights at the Charger Softball Complex. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
The Chargers own a 13-2 mark on the year, while the Lady Bulldogs visit with a 3-3 record.
 
Splitting four games, UAH picked up their first two losses of the year this past weekend in Florida as the Blue and White dropped a game to Barry as well as Rollins, both of whom are ranked in the top-25 nationally.
 
Mary Kelley and Stephanie Needham lead the team offensively as Kelley has registered a batting average of .465 while Needham is hitting .440 on the season, and Needham leads the team with 24 RBI with Kelley right on her heels as she has driven in 20 runs thus far this year.
 
The pair leads a group of six Charger who are hitting above .400, and the offensive prowess of the squad continues while on base as the team has recorded 34 stolen bases on the year. A perfect 14-of-14, Kelli Long leads the squad and sits 10th nationally in steals.
 
Alabama A&M visits UAH after picking up a 5-2 win over North Carolina A&T its last time out – a victory that snapped a two-game slide.
 
As a unit, the Lady Bulldogs hit just .186 on the year, and the squad owns just four extra-base hits – all doubles.
 
Raven Grubbs paces the squad with a .364 average, while Fayesha Ward leads with four RBI.
 
Receiving the most time in the circle has been Anisa Britt who has a 5.64 ERA in four appearances – three starts – while posting a 2-2 record.
