No. 1 Softball To Battle No. 2 UNG, No. 24 Columbus St.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The No. 1 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will travel to No. 2 North Georgia for an early-season showdown between the top two teams in the national rankings this weekend at the Captain D's Classic hosted by UNG in Dahlonega, Ga. The Chargers will battle both the Saints and No. 24 Columbus State in single games on Saturday and Sunday.
 
UAH – which owns a 15-2 record on the season – will square off first against Columbus State at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday before turning around to play the hosts at 4 p.m.
 
Sunday's game with Columbus State will happen at 10 a.m. CDT, and then the Blue and White will once again face North Georgia at 2 p.m.
 
After starting the season 11-0, the Chargers split a set of four games in Florida before returning home to sweep Division I foe Alabama A&M in a doubleheader Wednesday night at the Charger Softball Complex.
 
In UAH's 8-2 victory in the first game of the twinbill, Whitney Gilbert struck out 12 batters, and she now sits second on the team with 22 strikeouts while she also features the second-best ERA on the squad at 1.73.
 
Offensively, the Chargers continue to be led by Stephanie Needham as she averages .456 at the dish, and she has belted a team-best nine homers.
 
 North Georgia enters the contest with a 23-3 mark, and the Chargers own a 9-2 advantage over the Saints in the all-time series. Pilar Harden is a threat offensively for the second-ranked squad as she hits .305 on the season while notching 18 RBI.
 
Owning a 11-10 edge against the Chargers all-time, Columbus State is riding a seven-game winning streak into the weekend and features a record of 17-7. Taylor Turner's .435 average leads the squad, while Morgan Knight and Casey Googe have both driven in 24 runs thus far.
