LIVE STATS | LIVE AUDIO
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The 22nd-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will continue its long homestand this weekend as it welcomes a pair of Gulf South Conference opponents to the Charger Softball Complex. The 31-12 (13-7 GSC) Chargers will take on Delta State at 2 p.m. on Saturday and face Christian Brothers at the same time on Sunday.

The Lady Statesmen visit Huntsville with a mark of 18-25 (5-13 GSC), and CBU sits at 10-22 (5-13 GSC).

Owning one of the most potent offenses in the country, the Chargers rank among the nation's best in several categories. As a team, the Blue and White sits fourth in batting average, seventh in runs, fourth in home runs per game, third in doubles per game, and first in slugging percentage.

Individually, the Chargers have some top performers, also. With 15 on the season, Stephanie Needham ranks fifth in the country in home runs, and she is also 10th in slugging percentage, 11th in average and 21st in RBI. Kelli Long is eighth in sacrifice flies and 20th in steals

Also among the nation's best, Mary Kelley is fifth in Division II in doubles per game. Adding another pair of two-baggers in the nightcap of the North Alabama doubleheader on Tuesday, Kelley now owns 22 on the season – seven away from the UAH record for doubles in a season of 29.

UAH split with both of this weekend's opponents earlier this season on the road, winning 5-1 before dropping a 4-3 decision in extras at Delta State and falling 7-2 before winning 2-1 in Memphis. Both doubleheaders were in the middle of a brutal stretch for the Chargers in which they played eight games in four days.

Coming to town having dropped five of their last eight contests, the Lady Statesmen are led by Amber Adcock's .340 average, while Ashleigh Allgood has driven in 36 runs on the season. Brittany Gonzales paces the squad in the circle with 68 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.18 to go along with an even 8-8 record.

The Lady Bucs have lost four in a row and 12 of 14, most recently being swept by West Alabama by scores of 14-1 and 8-4. Allyson Grooms is hitting .380 on the year to lead the team, and Kim Adams has notched a 3.25 ERA while throwing the majority of innings in the circle for CBU.
