Softball Travels To West Georgia, No. 1 Valdosta State

LIVE STATS: WEST GEORGIA | VALDOSTA STATE
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The UAH softball team returns to Gulf South Conference play this weekend, traveling to West Georgia on Friday before venturing to Valdosta State with revenge on the mind on Saturday. The Chargers enter the weekend with a record of 27-10 (9-5 GSC).

West Georgia owns a 10-26 (4-12 GSC) mark, and the two-game set with the Wolves will start at 1 p.m. CDT. The VSU doubleheader is also slated for 1 p.m. CDT as UAH will attempt to hand the Blazers their first losses in conference play as they boast a 32-2 (16-0 GSC) record while currently riding a 27-game winning streak.

Last weekend the Chargers received a pair of strong performances in the circle from Whitney Gilbert, and she is now ranked in the top five in the GSC in strikeouts (2nd / 89), fewest runs allowed (2nd /42) ERA (4th / 2.08), opposing batting average (4th / .247), and wins (4th / 10).

In picking up a pair of wins a weekend ago, Gilbert struck out 12 while allowing just two runs – only one of which was earned.

Gilbert and fellow starting pitcher Whitney Toler will need to be solid, especially on Saturday as Valdosta State is ranked second in batting average, slugging percentage, runs, hits and RBI.

Placing first in all of those categories, however, is UAH.

As a team, the Chargers own a .365 batting average and have scored 278 runs. The Blue and White are also the team with the most power in the GSC as their slugging percentage of .587 and their 47 home runs are tops in the league.

Some of those big offensive numbers were helped by UAH's performance against West Georgia when the two teams met in Huntsville earlier this season as the Chargers won 9-0 and 17-1.

Things did not go nearly as well against Valdosta State as the Blue and White dropped a pair of contests, losing 6-2 and 5-3, but the team held a lead in both contests as the games were close affairs.

Live stats will be available for both contests.
