LIVE STATS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 21 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team is set to host the first-ever Gulf South Conference night game at the Charger Softball Complex, welcoming North Alabama to town for a 5:30 p.m. start on Tuesday. UAH enters the doubleheader at 29-12 (11-7 GSC), while UNA sits at 17-16 (6-12 GSC).
The Chargers played Alabama A&M earlier this season under the lights, but Tuesday will mark the first league game on campus that will be played with the night sky overhead.
UAH – returning home for the first time since March 25 – split this past weekend as it swept West Georgia before dropping a pair at No. 1 Valdosta State. Boosting her average to a team-best .474,
Stephanie Needham was impressive during the four games as she collected eight hits – four of which were homers.
Needham now ranks first in the GSC in average, slugging percentage (.876), hits (65), RBI (49), and home runs (15).
As a team, the Chargers continue to pace the conference in average, slugging percentage, runs, hits, RBI, doubles, homers, total bases, and steals.
The squad finds itself locked in a three-way tie for second in the league as West Florida and West Alabama both feature 11-7 records in conference play, so the Chargers could use another pair of results similar to that which happened when they faced UNA earlier in the year in Florence.
The Blue and White swept the doubleheader, winning 12-4 and 11-2, and
Mary Kelley was particularly impressive against the Lions as she drove in nine runs in the two games combined – including a 3-for-3, two-homer performance in the 11-2 game. She knocked in six and scored twice to have a part in eight of the team's runs.
UNA visits the Rocket City having dropped three of four this weekend on the Georgia swing with the team's lone win a 9-3 decision at West Georgia.
Shelby Goodman leads the squad with a .323 average at the plate, and she is tied with Dani Colwill for the team lead in RBI as both have driven in 20 on the season. Haley Barnette features a 1.75 ERA in the circle while Breanna Riley has notched a 2.78 ERA.
